These paired organs perform vital and complex functions for the body&#8217;s homeostasis: they filter blood by removing metabolic waste and excess water (producing urine), regulate hydro-electrolytic and acid-base balance, contribute to blood pressure control (through the renin-angiotensin system), and produce essential hormones such as erythropoietin (for red blood cell production) and the active form of vitamin D (for bone health). Our nephrology specialists deal with a wide range of kidney diseases, both primary (such as glomerulonephritis) and secondary to other systemic diseases (such as diabetic nephropathy and hypertensive nephropathy), as well as urinary tract infections, kidney stones, and acute and chronic kidney failure. We offer periodic nephrology check-ups to monitor kidney function (through blood and urine tests), especially in at-risk patients. The main objective is to diagnose kidney diseases early, slow their progression toward end-stage renal disease, and manage the numerous associated complications (anemia, hypertension, calcium-phosphorus metabolism disorders such as renal osteodystrophy).
